Gray-crowned Goldfinch was formerly considered part of European Goldfinch, but is now considered a separate species. The two species hybridize where their ranges overlap in Asia. Adult Gray-crowned Goldfinch has a mostly grayish head, lacking European Goldfinch’s black-and-white head markings.
