Hawaii CreeperLoxops mana
- ORDER: Passeriformes
- FAMILY: Fringillidae
Basic Description
The greenish-yellow Hawaii Creeper lives in wet, foggy rainforests high in the mountains on the island of Hawaii. It creeps along trunks and branches, probing under bark and into lichens for insects and spiders. This foraging behavior, along with a blackish facial mask and a trill-like song given by males, helps to distinguish this species from similar Hawaiian honeycreepers. The Hawaii Creeper is an endangered species, with a small, declining population and a susceptibility to expanding avian malaria.
