Hawaii AmakihiChlorodrepanis virens
- ORDER: Passeriformes
- FAMILY: Fringillidae
Basic Description
The Hawaii Amakihi, found on the islands of Hawaii, Maui, and Molokai, is one of the most common Hawaiian honeycreepers. Males are a luminous yellow-green, with a bold black spot between the eye and bill. Females and immatures are more green or gray overall. Small and agile, Hawaii Amakihi are acrobatic foragers, using their short, curved bill to pluck arthropods from vegetation or take nectar from flowers. They are most common in native forest with ohia and mamane trees, but this honeycreeper also makes use of introduced conifers and eucalyptus.
