- ORDER: Columbiformes
- FAMILY: Columbidae
Basic Description
The Zebra Dove is a slender, long-tailed dove that gets its name from its boldly barred sides and dark-fringed upperparts. These strong patterns are complemented by delicate pastel colors on the face and breast. Often found in pairs, these small birds are common in open and disturbed habitats, where they forage on the ground for small seeds. They are native to Southeast Asia and have been widely introduced elsewhere, including the Hawaiian Islands.
