Breeding male (Red-bellied)

A small finch with a red rump and heavy red bill. Breeding male is mostly red overall, with dark wings and tail and fine white spots on the flanks and wings.

Breeding male in the “Yellow-bellied” subspecies group, found in parts of Southeast Asia and Indonesia, is paler overall, with a lighter orange-yellow belly, than the widespread “Red-bellied” subspecies group.

A small finch with a heavy red bill, black wings, red rump, and black tail. Breeding male is brilliant red overall with bold white spotting. Female is grayish-brown above and buffy below.
