Basic Description
Adult male Saffron Finches are brilliant yellow songbirds with glowing orange highlights on the head. Females in northern South America are more subdued in color, while immature birds and females in southern South America are streaky brown, with limited yellow highlights. This member of the tanager family is native to South America and has been introduced to the Hawaiian Islands, the Caribbean, and other areas. Saffron Finches are small, social birds that forage conspicuously on the ground in yards, city parks, and other open habitats.
