Japanese Bush Warbler

Basic Description

The Japanese Bush Warbler is a small, brownish songbird that is very good at hiding in thick vegetation. And yet it is widely known as a sign of spring in Japan, thanks to its piercing whistled song. This skulking grayish-brown warbler typically stays low to the ground, foraging for insects and eating some fruit. First introduced to Oahu in 1929 as part of insect control efforts, this species subsequently established itself on all the major Hawaiian Islands.
