- ORDER: Passeriformes
- FAMILY: Sturnidae
Basic Description
Common Mynas are bold birds with flashy looks: a rich reddish-brown body, black hood, brilliant orange facial patch, and striking white wing patches. These adaptable, sometimes aggressive birds saunter about grassy areas in search of insects, take fruit from trees, raid crops and bird nests, and form raucous communal roosts. They are at home around people, nesting in building crevices, utility poles, and wherever they can squeeze their messy cup nests. They're native to southern Asia, but have been introduced to parts of southern Africa, Madagascar, Australia, East Asia, Hawaii, and Florida.
