Basic Description
The African Silverbill is a tiny, sand-colored songbird native to dry savanna in Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. Small in stature but with a large head and hulking blue-gray bill, these finches forage on the ground for grass and weed seeds, often in large flocks. Adults are creamy white below and brown above, with a scaly, buff-colored head, subtle blue eyering, and long blackish tail that tapers to a point. African Silverbills have been introduced to Hawaii and subsequently spread to the other main Hawaiian Islands.
