Wings Over Water Wildlife Festival

Wings Over Water Wildlife Festival (WOW) began in 1997 to connect the public with wildlife and wildland experiences in regional national wildlife refuges. It is one of the best East Coast wildlife festivals.
WOW is planning an exciting festival with more than 75 field trips to allow exploration of premier locations in national wildlife refuges, the national seashore, and other conservation locations throughout northeastern North Carolina. Chose field trips for birding, paddling, photography, art, and natural history activities. WOW’s keynote speaker, ornithologist, naturalist, and author, Scott Weidensaul, will discuss his latest book, Return of the Oystercatcher, coming in April 2026, to showcase what’s working for bird conservation around the world.
The festival supports refuge conservation and education through the Coastal Wildlife Refuge Society.
WOW Encore is a weekend of birding trips focusing on waterfowl. December 4 – 6, 2026.
