Rufous Motmot Gets A Stunning Close-up in Panama

Enjoy this intimate view of a Rufous Motmot on the Panama Fruit Feeder Cam.

Watch this Rufous Motmot soak up the spotlight on the Panama Fruit Feeder Cam. These large, forest-dwelling birds are one of the most colorful visitors to the feeder platform at the Canopy Lodge. This individual stuck around to sample a variety of the foods on offer before flitting back into the trees.

In addition to fruits, Rufous Motmots eat a varied diet that includes insects, spiders, scorpions, crustaceans, small fish, amphibians, and reptiles. They are usually seen singly or in pairs, and are often found quietly perched on vines or branches in the sub-canopy of tropical forests across their range in Central and South America.
