Male From Hellgate Osprey Nest Named “Clark” After Community Vote

Clark lands near Iris while she incubates their eggs at the Hellgate Osprey nest.

The polls are closed, and the votes have been counted! Iris’s new mate will officially be known as “Clark” from here on out at the Hellgate Osprey nest.

Clark is a fitting name for the new male and a tribute to the Clark Fork River, which the Ospreys nest alongside in Missoula, Montana. The name won by a landslide, receiving more than 1,700 of the 4,000 votes cast by viewers over the past week.

We’d like to extend a huge thank-you to our partners at the Montana Osprey Project and the University of Montana Bird Ecology Lab for helping develop the list of name suggestions and spread the word about the vote. We were thrilled to see more than 4,000 viewers participate and share their favorite names.

With about a week to go until the pair’s first egg is expected to hatch, we’re excited to see what the future holds for the Ospreys and their potential chicks during their first full breeding season together.
