Youngest Osprey Chick “Antali” Takes To The Skies!
August 14, 2024Spread your wings and fly, Antali! After 59 days in the nest, the final nestling from the 2024 Hellgate Osprey Cam took to the skies of Missoula, Montana, on the morning of August 14. Watch Antali make a confident jump towards the cam before fluttering away in the direction of the Clark Fork River. Dr. Erick Greene from the Montana Osprey Project reported that Antali landed safely on a nearby power pole after fledging.
Antali’s fledge comes 9 days after its sibling Sum-eh left the nest and officially wraps up the nestling period for the Hellgate Osprey family. Iris and Finnegan will continue to cater to their fledglings for the next several weeks as the young birds learn to fish and hone their flight skills. Sum-eh and Antali will associate with one another during this period, and we may see them return to the nest to eat or perch. Come September, the fledglings will be ready to embark on their long fall migrations alone.
We’ll continue to share updates about the Ospreys’ activities on cam on Twitter/X @HellgateOsprey. Thanks to everyone in the community who watched and learned along with us this season!
