Southwest Wings Spring Fling
April 29 - May 2
The 2020 Southwest Wings Spring Fling has been cancelled.
Due to the abundance and variety of wildlife species, Southwest Wings offers two birding events each year: Southwest Wings Spring Fling in May with guided field trips only and the Southwest Wings Birding and Nature Festival in August with guided field trips, free programs, wildlife exhibits, vendors, and a keynote buffet.
Southwest Wings is an educational celebration of the diversity of birds, mammals, reptiles, and insects in their environment; the sky islands in southern Arizona. The unique confluence of three climate zones ensures that the species count is high, and many are only found in this area of the United States. We average about 200 species each festival. Our high elevation location guarantees moderate temperatures during our field trips. We offer small group trips limited to a maximum of ten people plus a guide.
The Spring Fling offers guided field trips to the many nearby birding hotspots in Southeast Arizona. Our roster of guides include many professional bird guides from the area who know the birds and where to find them.
Early Bird arrivals at Spring Fling are invited to join us Tuesday 4pm – 6pm at Cochise College Student Center, which is next door to the library and early-registration location. Come early and be our guest at our new exclusive festive Kick-Off gathering and enjoy food and refreshments! Meet and mingle with your fellow festival participants, guides, and the faces behind “The Greatest Little Birding Festival in the United States!”
Registration is conducted only online. The online registration system allows you to view information about the field trips, prices, and trip leaders. It also provides you with your festival itinerary and registration code. You can come back into the registration system to make changes. If you need help or have a question, please contact Gordon at email@example.com.
All field trips begin and end at the Cochise College Library, Building 900. Field trip prices:
Over Night $250 (includes transportation, lodging, and all meals)
Full Day $90 (includes transportation and box lunch)
Half Day $45 (includes transportation; trips return at 1 pm and do not include lunch)
Owls $45 (includes transportation)
Be sure to make any lodging reservations in Sierra Vista well in advance. The first week in May is a peak birding time in southeast Arizona. We urge you to make lodging reservations as early as possible and ask for a special Southwest Wings rate. Our sponsoring hotel is Sierra Suites on Fry Boulevard. They provide a to-go box breakfast when you leave early. A map of their location is here.
