Prairie Appreciation Day
May 9 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm EDT
The 2020 Prairie Appreciation Day is cancelled.
SAVE THE DATE:
May 8, 2021
Because of this year’s cancellation, we are adding a virtual tour to our website http://www.prairieappreciationday.org/. The “tour” will chronicle weekly changes of blooms and birds and hopefully a webcam for a nest or two. Our organization feels that it is vital to keep people engaged with the environment and hopefully provide them a respite from virus concerns.
The Prairie Appreciation Day is a learning experience for the whole family on the entire prairie ecosystem, from geology to ethnobotany, to the plants and animals. The 2021 dates to be announced.
Events next year will include bird walks with information provided on recovery efforts of the Vesper Swallow, Great Horned Lark, and bluebirds. Visitors will see nesting Ospreys, western Purple Martins, bluebirds, and several species of swallow. It is an opportunity to meet with researchers from the University of Washington and Evergreen State College who are discovering fascinating relationships between the plants and animals of the prairies.
