Nature Fair: 100 Years of Birding at the Bottom of the Bay

October 4, 2025 October 5, 2025

Celebrate a centennial of sharing birds and protecting habitat in Santa Clara County.

Founded in 1925, the Santa Clara Valley Bird Alliance marks 100 years of Conservation and Community with a dinner, speakers, field trips, and a family nature fair.

October in Santa Clara County means sunny days, cool evenings, and migrating birds: ducks and shorebirds return to the San Francisco Bay to feast in the marshes and mudflats; Hooded Orioles depart for their southern homes; White-crowned and Golden-crowned Sparrows return from their northern breeding grounds; Western Tanagers linger as the Townsend’s Warbler start showing up; Yellow-billed Magpies, Black Phoebes, and other local residents go about their business.

The Santa Clara Valley Bird Alliance will host a centennial celebration dinner Friday evening October 4th with keynote speaker Kenn Kaufman and an all-day Nature Fair on Saturday October 5th, featuring presentations by local environmentalists, workshops, demonstrations, displays, nature walks on campus, and exhibit tables.  The celebration continues all month with field trips, classes, and other events.

The celebration dinner will be held at the Los Altos Community Center, and the Nature Fair at the West Valley College in Saratoga.
