Headlands Birding Festival
September 19, 2025 – September 21, 2025
The festival celebrates the fall migration of bird species as they travel to their wintering grounds as faraway as South America. The Headlands / Mentor Marsh region hosts some of the highest diversity and volume of migratory birds in the state, with 352 species documented in Lake County. Bird experts will lead field trips to some of the region’s best migratory bird hotspots, including Headlands Beach and Headlands Nature Preserve. A boating “pelagic” trip on Lake Erie is also planned.
There will be presentations on bird identification, migrations, and related topics. The keynote speaker is Julie Zickefoose, writer, artist, and naturalist living in the Appalachian foothills of Ohio.
Participation from a wide range of experience levels is welcomed. There will be a variety of vendors and food trucks present on Saturday.
