Annual Migration Celebration

April 26, 2025 @ 11:00 am April 27, 2025 @ 4:00 pm

The Migration Celebration is sponsored by the USFWS Texas Midcoast National Wildlife Complex, consisting of three NWRs: Brazoria (45,764 acres), San Bernard (62,909 acres), and Big Boggy (4,536). The refuges host a variety of wintering waterfowl, shorebirds, and marsh birds. Van tours around Moccasin Pond (a large wetland) can have many migrating birds that have not yet left for their northern breeding grounds.

The event is a free, family-friendly event that invites participants to discover, enjoy, and learn about the San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge via tours, activities, and exhibits, including keynote presentations, birds of prey, butterfly encounter, raptor experience, marsh buggy tour, archery & rifle shooting, van tours, kayaking, trail tours, nature activities, exhibitors, food trucks, and so much more.

The Cannan Bend Recreation Area, a unit of the Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge, is a prime birding site for nearctic migrating birds. The unit boasts a 30-acre freshwater lake, a .5-mile trail in old growth, bottomland forest, and acres of prairie and grassland.
