Ten Secrets to Never Having a Slow Day in the Field [Video]

By Michael O’Brien and Louise Zemaitis

For every bonanza day you have when birds seem to be dripping out of the trees, there seem to be plenty when the woods and fields are just… quiet. But there’s still lots to see and appreciate, according to Michael O’Brien and Louise Zemaitis, two expert naturalists from Cape May, New Jersey.

Last Monday, they gave a seminar here at the Cornell Lab in which they described the things they do to find richness in even their slowest outings. With tips like noticing behavior, appreciating subtle beauty, and reveling in abundance, they said, every day is different, and everywhere you go something amazing is happening.

Watch this archived video of Michael O’Brien’s and Louise Zemaitis’ seminar for the full 10 tips and plenty of beautiful photos:

O’Brien’s and Zemaitis’s talk took place on Feb. 3, 2014. It was part of the Cornell Lab’s long-running Monday Night Seminar series, a long-standing tradition established decades ago by Lab founder Dr. Arthur Allen. If you enjoyed this seminar, check this page for our list of future speakers—we’ll note which upcoming talks will be livestreamed—or come visit us in person!
