Cornell Hawks Welcome Three Eggs In 2025

Watch Big Red reveal the first egg to her mate, Arthur, at the Cornell Hawks nest on March 27.

After weeks of carefully constructing their nest of sticks above Cornell University’s main campus, the Red-tailed Hawks have officially kicked off the 2025 breeding season with a clutch of three brown-speckled eggs. Big Red laid her first egg on March 27, followed by a second on March 30 and a third on April 2. Tune in LIVE to the Cornell Hawks Cam to watch the hawks tend to their eggs as the new breeding season begins in Ithaca, New York.

Chance For A Fourth Egg?

Not this year! Since 2012, Big Red has laid 3 eggs per clutch in 10 breeding seasons, and 4 eggs twice—in 2022 and 2024. Enough time has passed to know that 2025 will feature her 11th season with 3 eggs.

It Takes Two

Big Red’s longtime mate, Arthur, continues to shine as a dependable provider for his family. Already this season, Arthur has been seen delivering a mix of rodents, birds, and reptiles to the Fernow nest site. In addition to keeping Big Red fed, Arthur will assist with incubation duties until their chicks are expected to hatch in early May. Together, this powerhouse pair has successfully raised 20 chicks to fledging since they first paired up in 2018!
