Athena Offers Owlets Breakfast At Wildflower Center Nest

Watch Athena offer up a rodent breakfast to her owlets at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.

The owlets from the Great Horned Owl Cam hatched on April 9 and 11, and Athena is keeping them cozy and well fed! Watch this adorable clip as she offers her owlets bites of rat for breakfast.

Female Great Horned Owls carefully tear prey into small pieces to feed their owlets until they are old enough to eat on their own. Self-feeding typically begins around 3–4 weeks of age, but the female may continue offering meals through 5 weeks.
