American Kestrel Cam Returns For The 2025 Breeding Season

Watch the female American Kestrel arrive to settle over her two eggs on April 13.

The American Kestrels are back, streaming live from their nest box in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin! The female laid her first egg on April 11, followed by a second on April 13. American Kestrels typically lay 4–5 eggs per breeding attempt, so the clutch is likely to grow with more eggs this week. She’ll continue laying one egg every two days until her clutch is complete. Tune in LIVE this week to see how many eggs arrive in 2025!

You may notice the female leaving her eggs exposed for longer periods over the next few days. This behavior is completely normal—female kestrels typically wait to begin full-time incubation until their second-to-last egg is laid.

The American Kestrel Cam is a collaboration with the Raptor Resource Project. Stay up to date all season by following @WI_KestrelCam on X (formerly Twitter).
