A Winter Finch Festival At The Ontario Feeders
January 31, 2025Watch a busy flock of Redpolls join Pine Grosbeaks on the Ontario FeederWatch Cam to feast on black oil sunflower seeds and more.
See if you can distinguish the male Pine Grosbeaks from the females as they crack open seeds. Males are reddish pink and gray, while females are grayish with tints of reddish orange or yellow on the head and rump. They all have dark gray wings marked by 2 white wingbars, and the amount of reddish pink on the bellies of males and the head and rump color on females is variable.
The much smaller Redpolls are known to follow the larger, thick-billed grosbeaks to feeders to feast on the shards of seeds that the bigger birds leave behind.
