2022 Barred Owl Cam Returns—With Eggs!

Watch the female Barred Owl reveal the first egg of the 2022 season.

The WBU Barred Owl cam is back! The female surprised us with the first egg of the 2022 season on February 27, marking the earliest lay date in the cam’s history (the previous record was March 1, in 2019). Since then, the female laid a second egg on March 1, and she’s been busy incubating in the nest box located in the backyard of Jim Carpenter, the president and CEO of Wild Birds Unlimited. Watch Live.

Are more eggs on the way? Only time will tell. Barred Owls may lay between 1 and 5 eggs per clutch, with 2 or 3 eggs being the most common. The female will lay an egg every 1–4 days until the clutch is complete. Keep an eye on the cam’s Twitter @WBU_Owls for updates throughout the season.
