About the Photographer
I enjoy the outdoors and find bird photography a very energizing pursuit, but it is a challenge to capture the beauty and fragility of the natural world. I never allow myself to think I am smarter than what I am trying to photograph. It doesn’t take long to realize sometimes birds can be uncooperative subjects, and combined with poor lighting or bad weather, an outing can be a frustrating experience. Persistence and patience are necessary traits. Luck is absolutely priceless.
I like all birds, but songbirds remain my favorite group to photograph. Their beautiful plumage and calls have always fascinated me. At the other end of the spectrum, birds of prey are powerful and exciting to photograph.
When possible, I try to depict action or behavior, while showing habitat. It is my sincere hope that my photography might bring the viewer to a greater awareness and appreciation of the birds and animals right here in our midst.
